NSW: Man in coma after being pushed on footpath.

SYDNEY, Dec 13 AAP - A man is in an induced coma in hospital after being pushed over in Woolloomooloo in central Sydney.

Police said on Saturday that at about 5.20am (AEDT) on Friday, an Australian Federal Police officer was flagged down by a man on William Street, Woolloomooloo and alerted to an unconscious man lying on the footpath.

The man was taken to St Vincents Hospital suffering serious head injuries.

A 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Kings Cross Police Station where he was charged with recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Police allege the man pushed the victim, causing him to fall backwards and strike his head heavily on the footpath.

The arrested man was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today.
